Our local authority have been reasonably accommodating with our applying our own ballot seals, noting official seal numbers and observing the postal openings. We would like to gain traction in other LA areas where some of our future plans can be trialled. It would be too much for what is at the moment a one man band to demand more and more changes to one local authority.

Postal Ballot Tally Form

The form keeps a running tally of postal ballots as they are delivered. This mirrors the hourly votes cast tally kept by presiding officers at polling stations. It could be inspected by candidates and their agents. The form is on our Forms page.

Our Livestreaming Overnight Ballot Box Storage

A mobile phone running a livestreaming app over the cellular network, powered by a power bank, would be independent of council infrastructure. 

Reconcile Postal Votes with the Electoral Roll

Each postal ballot has a long alpha-numeric number that relates to an individual elector. The lookup file is created and held by electoral services. Develop a mechanism to check postal voters are on the electoral roll and to detect duplicates. 

Observe Transport of Ballot Boxes

Presiding officers drive ballot boxes to the count or to overnight storage alone. Having people follow the cars would not be an ideal solution. Might it be possible for the presiding officer to give two count agents a lift to the count if count agents are available? One count agent would look worse than the presiding officer being alone with the (sealed) ballot box.
